The legendary band KINO gave concerts after 30 years

Recently the legendary band KINO concert tour took place: three concerts were organized in Moscow as well as in St. Petersburg and one in Minsk.

The Kino band appeared in 1982, came a long way from home band to stadiums, and ceased to exist at the peak of popularity in the 1990s due to the death in a car accident of the band’s leader Viktor Tsoi.

The concert of the band  KINO is an unprecedented event – the band has not met for the last 30 years. One of the creators and producers of the show is Alexander Tsoi, the son of ex-band leader Viktor.

The basis of the program is the real voice of Viktor Tsoi, digitized from the original multichannel recordings of Kino. The band consists of two original bass players of the band of different ages, Alexander Titov and Igor Tikhomirov, and the permanent guitarist Yuri Kasparyan. The concert also consists of a drummer, keyboardist, and rhythm guitarist.

The concert details were told by the technical director of the project Alexander Aydakin.

  1. Why Meyer sound speakers were chosen for this project?

LeningradProduction company and I personally, as a CEO, are longtime partners of Soundcafe, and the choice in favor of the MeyerSound Leo family was not difficult. Seriously though, Leo systems, and especially Lyon, currently have one of the best, if not the best, room size / power ratios that helped us achieve the desired pressure and uniform coverage with a relatively small line array size. Also, the system perfectly figures out the delivery of the high-frequency component over long distances, which made it possible to use delays in the reinforcement mode, thereby preserving the integrity of the sound picture as much as possible. Also, the suspension system was completely redesigned since Milo / Mica, etc. times, reducing the installation time, according to my feelings, by 60 percent.

  1. Could you describe please the technical part of the project?

The tour came to LeningradProduction in October 2020, and, in fact, from that moment on, the work hasn’t been stopped for a second, and in fact, it is still being done even today, since most of the tour is still ahead. The main difficulties were associated with the restoration of Victor’s vocals. Without going into technical details, I will only say that it took the group more than 2 years and the subsequent reduction of the vocal tracks to a certain common denominator for use in live performance. It took 2 long years especially because some tracks were literally restored from demos for 4-channel port studio. The rehearsals had lasted more than 3 months in total (!!!) and right before the concerts, the band rehearsed on the MeyerSound Leopard / 900lfc system, so that the FOH the band’s engineer and sound producer Andrey Alyakrinsky could prepare the mix for work at the stadium as accurately as possible. The idea has justified itself almost to 100 percent. Only minor adjustments were required during the soundcheck that, in turn, perfectly characterize the homogeneous tonal balance within all the products of the system.

It was a real show!

The power and energy of the concert were given with the Meyer Sound #LEOFamily systems that Soundcafe company provided accordingly.
